Four Roots of Life Tree.

Choice and Chance shape our lives.

Choices, we make of our own volition. Chance, destiny hands out to us outside the fulcrum of our choices.

Life rolls differently for each one of us, but one common yearning we all have is to pack the most in our span from entry to exit. So the most pertinent question for our lot should be, “How to nurture the roots of the controllable choice, and the destiny-driven chance to make our life-tree blossom to its best possible state?”

To do that we need to know, what are the roots nourishing our life tree.

I feel there are Four.

#1: The first one is the root of GIFTS

Our arrival here is a Chance/Destiny-driven event, of a kind which right at the moment of our conception assigns us certain Gifts. Gifts unique to us that we don’t have the freedom to choose like our DNA, our parents, our siblings, our country, our city, religion, caste, or anything accorded to us by the hand of destiny. Now these gifts affect the growth of our life tree and shape our identity till we grow enough to use Choice to reshape it.

But once we reach a state to exercise Choice, we have two options.

To silently (or vocally) crib about us being less privileged compared to those who have better gifts and attribute the hardships of life to the quality of our gifts, Or…

To exercise a better choice: Telling ourselves that no matter what, Gifts are always good

All Gifts.

Especially those we think put us at a disadvantage v/s others more fortunate.

Why?

Because history of the world is testimony to the fact that bad gifts aka adversity aka tough conditions are the grounds from which all things worthwhile get conceived. They act like whetstones to sharpen the edges of endeavor.

But only when one nourishes these roots… of Gifts.

And the best way to nurture the roots of GIFTS nourishing our life tree is by showing genuine and profound GRATITUDE for them.

Because gratitude makes these gifts work for us, by helping us become a better and not a bitter version of ourselves.

#2: The second root feeding our life tree is that of WORK.

Work means not only what we do to make a living, but everything we do to do it better. To become better in Health, Knowledge, Skills, Inner Being, and Behavior.

And these roots give us the freedom to exercise our choice. To be what we want to be, and to do whatever it takes to become what we want to be.

To strive and become better in our daily existence.

And the best way to do that is by doing two things.

The first is getting in touch with the natural intrinsic essence we are born with. Getting attuned to it and understanding what is our true calling. And resisting the lure of emulating others, and freeing ourselves from the imposter syndrome.

And then, working hard, and hard, and harder to realize that calling. There is no other way.

So Attunement with our TRUE ESSENCE and HARD WORK is the best way to nurture the roots of WORK nourishing our Life Tree.

#3: The third root feeding our life tree is that of RELATIONS.

Our relationship with ourselves and our relationship with all those in our inner circle like family and friends and also our relations with the world at large- the environment, the moorings of the world, the realities and the gossip we encounter in daily life and our reactions to it.

But it starts with how we relate to ourselves. How we develop the ability to become a river that flows and keeps changing as it flows never becoming stagnant. The ability to flow and change saves the river from dying.

Similarly, our relationship with ourselves when it feeds from and feeds into a fixed self-identity encases us into the clutches of a personality that buries our true essence underneath.

So we need to learn to flow and grow and use that to nurture our relations with our inner circle and the world.

And the best way to do that is by learning to become Mindful. PRACTICING MINDFULNESS is the best way to nurture the roots of RELATIONS nourishing our Life Tree.

#4: The fourth root feeding our life tree is that of SECRETS.

All that we cannot perceive through cognition and only feel through intuition.

Like God, like Cosmos, a higher power that remains un-manifest yet can be felt if we exercise the choice to feel it and experience it by developing intuition.

And the only way to nurture the roots of SECRETS that can nourish our Life Tree is through MEDITATION

So Gratitude for the roots of Gifts, Diligence for the roots of Work, Mindfulness for the roots of Relations, and Meditation for the roots of Secrets is the way to make the Life Tree blossom to its best potential.

All four roots need to be nourished for the life tree to blossom. Ignoring any root would still make the tree grow…but not to its utmost potential.

Balance is the key.

In everything.
